The best of both worlds may be a cliche, but it's
true at Prairie Springs. Situated in southwest Airdrie, this new master-planned
community features 350 single-family detached homes on generously-sized lots. A
large central park with a playground forms the heart of the community and
pathways connect to the city's extensive pathway system. The community also ties
in to a wetlands area nearby and is right beside the Chinook Winds Baseball
Park.
Prairie Springs is located in the southwest quadrant of the
City of Airdrie. The developed area is bordered by Yankee Valley Blvd to the
North, 8th Street to the East, a drainage course to the West and the future 40th
Avenue to the South.
A key component of Prairie Springs is an exclusive open space system. The open
space system is comprised of park spaces, a school site and connecting trail
network. The Chinook Winds Recreational Facility is a forty acre facility
comprised of existing and future ball diamonds, playgrounds and open space along
the drainage course.
The park system comprises a linear park following, the natural drainage course
with connections to the central school site as well as neighbourhood parks. The
trail network will provide direct access points to open space ensuring a high
level of accessibility for community residents.
At present three schools are planned for the area. Two of these would be
accommodated on a twelve acre site which is centrally located within to plan an
eighteen acre site for a future high school in the northeast corner of the plan
area.
The pathway system comprising walkways, connector pathways and to central
pathways all tie in to the City's regional pathway system.
